Originating in the Reedcleft Ascent, Cliff Dwellers were forced from the reed covered plateaus and onto the cliff sides. The reason has been forgotten, but the bitterness remains. Cliff dwellers learned to bore into the rocky cliffs of the Ascent, and developed their stony camouflage to adapt to the barren wastes too near the rapids. Their green underbellies were developed due to their peculiar hunting style for when they return to the reedy plateaus in which they lie still on their back, then ambush their prey.
As their sub-species grew, the spirals began building homes ever closer to the plateaus they sneered. As they came closer and closer to the top, their coloration began to change from brown with green bellies, to green with brown bellies. Top Dwellers as they're mockingly called by their kin are nearly as shunned as the plateaus they live close to.
